20 Reasons Why 2016 Is The Best Time To Be Young

20 Reasons2016 has been special. So many great (and not so great :P) things have happened this year that it calls us to count all our blessings. As a country, we reached new milestones in various fields. Be it sports or science, we are reaching new heights. It’s is sure a great time to be a student, with so many technological advancements and innovation, maintaining your pace with the fast moving world can be challenging. Meritnation is always here to be at your side in your journey of education. So let’s see what amazing things that have happened around the year and what we all can learn from it.

 

1. Two more years before CBSE Class X Board exams become compulsory –  This will always be a subject of debate but yes, CBSE board exams sure steals the headlines some way or the other.

3. Virtual Reality became real for students – Meritnation launched India’s first VR study app SuperScreen VR and Periodic Table VR to make your study even more fun than ever before.

4. Online learning got a lot of attention, thanks to Chan-Zuckerberg Initiative (CZI).

7. Hillary Clinton runs for US Presidentship – Although Clinton lost the election, but won the Popular Vote with a substantial amount of votes. She truly serves as a great inspiration for young women and girls everywhere, to keep fighting no matter what comes.

8. US Senate has more women than it ever had. Especially with a number of Indian-American women making a great mark in the US elections.

9. Reliance’s JIO has made access to faster & more affordable Internet. With the wide reach of Internet, students will gain more and avail better ways of learning.

10. Leonardo Dicaprio won the Oscar – He gave the most important lesson of our time, that perseverance is more important than winning. His hard work and never giving up spirit gave us hope to conquer our battles.

12. India Planted Almost 50 Million Trees In Just 24 Hours – On July 11, in the state of Uttar Pradesh more than 80,000 volunteers planted 49.3 million saplings, smashing a world record. Now that’s something to be really proud of!

13. National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) for Medical Entrance makes a comeback after a Supreme Court verdict. The decision brought clarity amidst confusion and put a stop to private colleges conducting separate exams for medical admissions.

14. Bob Dylan is the first musician to be awarded the Nobel prize in Literature – The singer/songwriter takes the award “for having created new poetic expressions within the great American song tradition”.

EmmaNoma15. In the Harry Potter sequel play, The Cursed Child has a black woman playing Hermione Granger – Actress Noma Dumezweni, who is black, has been cast in the play the role of Hermione. JK Rowling supported this revolutionary idea & shut down people by saying that the character has “…my absolute blessing and enthusiasm. Great learning about inclusivity and that art knows no boundaries.

16. Finland to become world’s first country to get rid of all school subjects! Schools will now have to teach events and phenomena to approach different subjects. A truly holistic approach to education and a laudable step in the field of education reform.

17. Great year of movies! Kung Fu Panda 3, Zootopia, Jungle Book, Finding Dory and much more released this year. Each movie had their own essential learnings to teach and the visual appeal made it all the more possible for us to cherish them longer.

coldplay-main18. British rock music band, Coldplay debuts in India – The band & many other great artists through an initiative called Global Citizen India which gives a platform for social change. Its mission is to mobilize youth to take action in support of the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals. Guess what, Jay Z is also coming. 🙂

19. Digital Wallets are fast replacing hard cash in the pockets-. With the recent ban on Rs. 500 and Rs. 1000 notes, India is moving towards a cashless economy.

20. Biggest Supermoon since 1948 – You really don’t want to miss to look at the moon tonight. The moon will be within 90% of its closest approach to Earth in a given orbit and chance for us not to miss this spectacular.
