CBSE Class 12 Maths: Exam leaves Students in Tears

Meritnation|Mar 15th, 2016 06:26pm

dreamstime_10375694“Lengthy, tough, tricky and dreadful…” complained students on Monday while leaving their exam halls all over the country. The CBSE Class 12 Maths board exam left students in tears and in disappointment with the Board for setting such a tough paper.

For most of the students the paper was not only lengthy but tricky too. Students complained that many unseen questions in the paper required time to think and hence made it lengthy. Even teachers claimed that the paper was tougher than that of the previous years’ and said that around 50% of the questions were based on Higher Order Thinking Skills (HOTS), compared to 10-20% previously.

“The paper was tough. Most of the students could not attempt it well and are depressed. The pattern of the questions asked in the exam was way different from the normal pattern of the CBSE. Either the CBSE should conduct the exam again or adopt a liberal attitude during the evaluation of answer sheets,” said mathematics teacher Rakesh Sharma.
The noise raised by the paper being very tough has also reached the ears of our parliamentarians. During the zero hour discussion, K.V. Thomas, Congress leader from Kerala raised the issue and said that “the government should take it seriously” since the Maths exam could play a decisive role in the career goals of students.

Students took to sharing their grievances on social media sites, urging other students to post on the forums for the Board to take note of the issue. Parents and students alike sent tweets to the Human Resource Development Minister Smriti Irani about the challenging paper.

Ohhh my. Though I am class 9, I am apprehensive now. I need to practice continually in order to succeed in my 12th Board exams. As for this year, I believe that if the common consensus is that the paper was arduous then the govt. must heed to the views of students and organise a retest for the betterment of the students. This exam is of paramount importance in every student’s career life.
