Chapter 8 – Quadrilaterals

Important Topics:
1. Prove and use that “the diagonals of a parallelogram bisect each other” and its converse
2. Prove and use that “a quadrilateral is a parallelogram if a pair of opposite sides is equal and parallel”
3. Solve problems involving the mid point theorem and its converse

MERITNATION TIPS:
a) Practise all questions and examples from the NCERT textbook.
b) Be thorough with the properties of the parallelogram and its applications.
c) Draw neat and proper diagrams with labels.

Chapter 9 – Areas of Parallelograms and Triangles

Important Topics:
1. Prove and use that “Parallelograms on the same base and between the same parallels are equal in area”
2. Prove and use that “If a parallelogram and a triangle lie on the same base and between the same parallels, then the area of the triangle is one-half the area of the parallelogram”
3. Prove and use that “Two triangles on the same base (or equal bases) and between the same parallels are equal in area”

MERITNATION TIPS:
a) Practise all questions and examples from the NCERT textbook.
b) Show your effort by writing at the introductory steps and sketch out figures/diagrams/tables relevant to the questions when running short of time.
c) In case you get stuck while solving any question, don’t panic. Leave appropriate space and don’t cross out some of the steps that you may have written. This ensures that even if you don’t find time to solve this question, the examiner will give some marks as stepwise marking system is followed in this exam.

Chapter 10 – Circles

Important Topics:
1. Prove and use the theorem “equal chords of a circle subtend equal angles at the centre” and its converse
2. Prove and use the theorem “equal chords of a circle (or of congruent circles) are equidistant from the center (or centers)” and its converse
3. Use the property that “Congruent arcs (or equal arcs) of a circle subtend equal angles at the center” to solve problems
4. Prove and use the theorem “the angle subtended by an arc at the centre is double the angle subtended by it at any point on the remaining part of the circle”
5. Prove and use the theorem “The sum of either pair of opposite angles of a cyclic quadrilateral is 180º” and its converse

MERITNATION TIPS:
a) Draw neat figures wherever needed.
b) Theorems should be written in a proper format.
c) While answering the questions, make sure that all the steps are written along with the reason.

Chapter 11 – Construction

Important Topics:
1. Construct Angles of Special Measures Using Ruler and Compass and verify the validity of the construction
2. Construct a triangle given its base, sum/difference of the other two sides and one base angle; and understand the reasoning behind the construction
3. Construct a triangle given its perimeter and the base angles; and understand the reasoning behind the construction

MERITNATION TIPS:
a) Use only sharpened pencils for constructions.
b) Make a rough figure of the question asked, then proceed with the actual diagram.
c) After the diagram is formed, do not forget to name it.
d) Steps of construction should be according to the name used and is easy to understand.
