SA1 exams are inching closer day by day. Students are engrossed in their books and revision notes, reading the chapters and practicing questions. Practice becomes all the more relevant when it comes to Mathematics. To help you with your SA1 exams, our team of experts at Meritnation have created a list of tips and tricks to help you solve the Maths mystery and score more than 90 per cent marks!
For most students, this is the easiest chapter of all and it carries a weightage of 15 marks.
Frequently Asked Topics: Non-termination numbers, rationalisation, laws of exponents
The highest scoring chapter is Polynomials. If you want to clear your exam with flying results, you need to prepare this chapter well. Practice as many questions as you can, calculation mistakes are a major factor in this chapter.
Frequently Asked Topics: Remainder theorem (One question is sure from this topic), zeros of a polynomials, algebraic identities (most important).
MERITNATION TIP: Write the formulae on a paper, put it on your study room’s wall and practice the questions as much as possible on a daily basis. |
This topic is a favourite with students. Most of the students find this chapter interesting and unchallenging.
MERITNATION TIP: Plot the coordinates clearly and explicitly. |
This is a very short chapter and needs very less time to learn. Go through all of the Euclid’s Axioms and postulates, you will be able to attempt the questions from this chapter.
MERITNATION TIP:
All the axioms and postulates should be on your finger tips. |
Most of the students find geometry a little difficult, but they need to have patience and study the topic with full concentration. Geometry has a weightage of about 30% of the total marks. Students should give extra attention to this topic.
Do prove all theorems with proper statements and concepts. Draw the diagrams while attempting the question. Practice as many questions as you can for this topic.
MERITNATION TIP: Students are advised to draw neat and clean diagrams and label things well. Learn the statements as well as the proof of all the theorems. |
This is a formula based chapter, take less effort and time, if practiced well. Most probably, about two questions will be asked from this topic. Practice a variety of questions from this topic to gain speed.
1. Practice a variety of questions from different topics to gain speed.
Questions based on long division method take a lot of time, students are advised to practice these type of questions as much as possible. Similarly, formula based questions (like Heron’s Formula) take less effort and time, if they are practiced well.
2. Revise all the formulae and important topics often.
Make a list including all formulae and identities (Algebraic Identities, Laws of exponents, Heron’s formula).
3. Give extra attention to topics with higher weightage in terms of marks.
Geometry has a weightage of about 30% of the total marks. Also, the chapter polynomials is very important in terms of weightage of marks.
4. Practice questions from previous year papers, sample papers and model papers within the time frame you have at the time of final exam.
5. Stick to NCERT and CBSE books for basic concepts.
6. While attempting the paper:
Read the paper thoroughly in the allotted 15 minutes before the exam starts and wisely select the internal choices you wish to make.
7. Make sure all the graphical representations are neat.
In coordinate geometry, coordinates should be plotted clearly. Also, in geometry, students are advised to draw neat and clean diagrams.
MERITNATION TIP: Even if you do not know the complete solution to a particular question, try to attempt and write till the known steps. Spare at least 10 minutes for revision of the answer sheets. |
From every chapter, there are some topics that are a favorite with teachers, which carry great weightage. Some of those favourite topics are as follows:
> Rationalisation: This topic is very important from the exam point of view, at least one question from this topic is always there in the examination.
> Remainder Theorem: This is an all time favourite topic. Skipping this topic will make you regret it, so prepare this well for your examination.
> Angle Sum Property of a Triangle: Most of the students find geometry a bit tough, but students need to have patience and understand the topic with full concentration.
All the best with your SA1 revisions and exams! 🙂
