The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has planned to implement vocational training to its students of classes 9 to 12 in various different sectors from this academic year. With an eye to create skilled-manpower right from the school-level and also to help students identify their competencies to help choose their fields of specialisation after class 12.
In order to make this plan a success, the CBSE has empanelled 17 private training companies as Skill Knowledge Providers (SKPs) whose services can taken by all the CBSE affiliated schools. The SKPs would inculcate training in sectors like automobile technology, retail management, banking and insurance, etc.
A member of one of the SKPs identified for Tamil Nadu says that the course for the vocational training will be incorporated in the school curriculum. “We will provide the students with academic and practical exposure. There will be interactions with industry professionals which will help the students to understand what skill-sets their employers are looking for. This will help the students get a clear picture of which UG course they want to opt for after Class 12. More focus will be given to practical training than theory.” the official said.
These vocational courses will be benefit students and will help them to identify alternative career paths. The SKPs are conducting sensitisation programmes for the principals to help them understand what the course would offer and get them on board.
