In this chapter things are grouped in different categories on the basis of shapes, colours, uses, materials they are made from etc. There are so many ways to group objects.

Key Points to Revise in This Chapter:

     1. Properties of materials like hardness, lustre, solubility, floating, sinking, opaque, transparent and translucent
     2. Objects made of single material.
     3. Objects made of different materials.

Method for Quick Understanding:

a) Listing of different types of objects that are made from the single material or many different materials.
b) Grouping of materials on the basis of similarities and differences in their properties.

pencil_scale_logoMERITNATION TIP:
Pick some of the most important questions that have frequently appeared in the main examinations over the years. These questions are a great way of testing the level of your preparation. Do more practice on questions based on the properties like solubility, opaque, transparent, translucent and floating.

Chapter 5 – Separation of Substances

In this chapter, the different methods to separate components of mixtures are discussed. In some cases only a single method is helpful for separation of a substance while in other cases more than one methods are required.

     13. Churning

Method for Quick Understanding:

a) Develop a clear understanding of which method is used for which type of mixture.
b) Memorise definitions of each method of separation.
c) Understand the principle behind every method of separation.
