The AIPMT test consists of 45 questions from the subject Chemistry out of 180 questions. The subject should not be ignored as it might result in landing you a place in the prestigious medical colleges of the country. With dedicated efforts you ace the subject.
To help you score the maximum here, our experts have listed below the important topics and tips to ace the chemistry section in AIPMT 2016.
Chemistry is divided into three units, that are, Physical, Organic and Inorganic Chemistry. You will be asked at least 12-13 questions from each unit. Although you’ll find that questions from the Inorganic Chemistry unit, are mostly direct and that if you can learn these chapters properly, you’ll be answering them easy-breezy. It might seem boring, but ignoring the unit can cost you.
Physical and Organic Chemistry will require regular practice. The level of difficulty of questions asked in Chemistry in AIPMT 2015 were of average difficulty. In Chemistry 29%, 51% and 20% of the questions were easy, average and difficult respectively.
As a medical aspirant the following information will prove helpful to you, in your journey to become a doctor.
Preparation for any entrance exam needs constant practice in a planned manner. Chemistry is one if the subject that has a very wide coverage of topics. While studying chemistry it is imperative to prepare ALL CHAPTERS. However, if we analyse the previous year question papers of AIPMT, the following trend could be observed.

1. Go through the NCERT for thorough preparation of topics and the basic concepts involved in them.
2. Build a strong hold of important formulas for solving numericals. Practice solving numericals by taking help from previous years’ papers and sample papers.
3. For Inorganic chemistry have a clear idea of the facts and information. Understand the general trends in Physical and Chemical properties.
4. Go through the previous years papers for preparation of important chemical reactions.
5. For organic chemistry a clear understanding of basic concepts like inductive effect, electromeric effect, hyperconjugation, resonance is needed to comprehend how they affect the properties and chemical reactions of various organic compounds.
6. Reaction mechanism forms an integral part for any organic reaction. Practice a number of reaction mechanism to help you solve the questions based on them.
7. Prepare all the intext questions of NCERT as many a times similar questions are asked in the exam.
8. Develop a clear understanding of important organic name reactions such as Williamson’s synthesis, Schotten-Bauman reaction, aldol reaction, cannizarro reaction, Wolf Kischner reduction, Hoffman Bromamide reaction etc.
9. Try to solve the question within the stipulated time.
10. Prepare a formula chart and an organic reaction tree for quick revision.
11. Maintain a positive attitude, healthy life style. Keep working on the weak areas to strengthen them.
We wish you all the best for your AIPMT Chemistry preparation! 🙂
