IIT aspirants have a reason to celebrate this year, with more seats opening up in four locations. The prestigious colleges and their coveted seats are an ambition for engineering aspirants in the whole country and securing a seat through merit lists. The fact that the seats are limited becomes a cause of disappointment for the students who do not make it to the cut off lists. The good news for them is that 4 out of 5 proposed new IITs are being commenced in Goa, Tirupati, Palakkad and Chhattisgarh. The IITs will be open to students taking admission in the academic year 2015-16. However, the number of seats will be lesser in the initial stages.

During last year’s admission scene, 16 IITs along with ISM Dhanbad were offering more than 9800 seats. After the inclusion of these four new IITs, the total number of seats in IITs is expected to be close to 11000, for admissions to academic year 2015-16.
