Latest on optional CBSE class X board exams!

Meritnation|Dec 15th, 2010 04:59am

Optional board exams under CCE are turning out to be quite a success story in its first year of implementation. Of the total 8,23,125 students who will appear for class X exams in 2011, almost 5,49,542 students have opted for school-conducted Summative Assessment II (SA-II) (Source: TOI December 13, 2010). Thus with more than 67% students opting out of board conducted SA-II to be held in March-April 2011, CBSE may well consider its decision to make board exams optional, a reasonably well received move.

School-conducted SA-II or Board-conducted SA-II?

  • Opt for school conducted SA-II if you wish to continue in the same (CBSE affiliated) school
  • Opt for school conducted SA-II if you wish to change your school (and not your board) after class X
  • Opt for board conducted SA-II if you wish to change your Board after class X
  • Opt for board conducted SA-II if  your present school does not offer +2 level (i.e. senior secondary level)

Important points!

  • No difference in the syllabus for school and board conducted SA-II
  • No difference in the method of evaluation (evaluation to be based on the marking scheme prepared by the board)
  • No difference in the certificates issued to all students who pass out of the CBSE system

With CBSE’s ongoing efforts to relieve students from the stress and pressure of board exams, CCE is proving to be quite a breather. However, there are many who are still skeptical about this new system of evaluation and have therefore opted for the board-conducted exams. CBSE Chairman Vineet Joshi opines, “This is the first time and naturally there will be some doubts in the minds of parents and students. But gradually the importance of CCE will be understood” (Source: TOI December 13, 2010)

In years to come, CBSE expects more students to opt for the school-conducted SA-II exams.

Meritnation.com wishes all you students studying in class X all the best for your upcoming exams. We hope that the  SA-II Model Papers and previous years’ Solved Board Papers available on Meritnation.com will help you in your preparation for these exams

Cheers!

This was a seriously incredibly very good submit. In theory I’d prefer to write like this also getting time and actual effort to make a fantastic piece of writing but what can I say I procrastinate alot and by no means seem to obtain a little something done.

Meritnation is doing a great job of keeping its users well-informed of all the developments and also follow up on key issues. Keep it up!
It will be great if they can also publish a consolidated summary sheet of all the key concepts / formula (Math & Science)/dates (history)etc… for quick reference for the students. And also an exhaustive list of ALL possible MCQs. This will help them as a quick reference sheet.
