Democacy and popular struggles

Do you remember studying about "Decmocracy " in class 9th? 
 

Lets quickly revise what democracy is  and how some nations struggeled for establishing a democratic form of government in their countries. 
 

 
Some of the key features of democratic form of government are : 
                                                                                               
  • The rulers are elected by the people 
  • The elected leaders take the final decision 
  • There is free and fair elections
  • There is rule of law and respect for rights. 

 
Struggle for establishing democratic practices  in countries can be traced back to 1765 with the commencement of the American revolution followed by French revolution. Since then the struggle has gone through different stages and many countries became successful in adopting the features of democracy. 

However, we can still find  examples from the  recent past about the struggles in some countries like the one in Nepal and Bolivia. We will be studying these two case studies in this chapter. We will also study how power is excersised in democracy.
