Question 7:

Tabulate the following:
A super market divided into five main sectionsgrocery, vegetables, medicines, textiles, and noveltiesrecorded the following sales in 2014, 2015, and 2016:

In 2014, sales in grocery, vegetables, medicines and novelties were ₹ 6,25,000, ₹ 2,20,000 , ₹ 1,88,000 and ₹ 94,000 respectively. Textiles accounted for 30% of the total sales during the year.

In 2015, the total sales showed 10% increase over the previous year while grocery and vegetables registered 8% and 10% increase over their corresponding figures in 2014, medicines dropped by ₹ 13,000 textiles  stood at ₹ 5,36,000.

In 2016, though the total sales remained the same as in 2015 grocery fell by ₹ 22,000, vegetables by ₹ 32,000, medicines by ₹ 10,000, and novelties by ₹ 12,000.

Answer:

Year→
Section ↓

2014 2015 2016 Total
Grocery 625000 675000 653000 1953000
Vegetables 220000 242000 210000 672000
Medicines 188000 175000 165000 528000
Textiles 483000 536000 612000 1631000
Novelties 94000 143000 131000 106000
Total 1610000 1771000 1771000 5152000

Working notes:

2014-
We know,
Total sales = Grocery + Vegetables + Medicines + Textiles + Novelties
Assume the total sales to be x and textiles to be 30% of x.
Now, we solve for x,
x=625000+220000+188000+94000+30100×xx=1127000+30x100x=12700000+30x100100x=112700000+30x70x=112700000x=1610000
Thus, the total sales is 1610000 and textiles will be 30% of x, i.e. 483000.

2015-
Total sales = 10% of xx
or, Total sales = 161000 + 1610000 = 1771000
Grocery = 8% of 625000 + 625000 = 50000 + 625000 = 675000
Vegetables = 10% of 220000 + 220000 = 22000 + 220000 = 242000
Medicines dropped by 12000, so medicines = 175000
Novelties=1771000-675000-242000-175000-536000=143000

2016-
Total sales = 1771000
Grocery fell by 22000, so grocery = 653000
Vegetables fell by 32000, so vegetables = 210000
Medicines fell by 10000, so medicines = 165000
Novelties fell by 12000, so novelties = 131000
Textiles=1771000-653000-210000-165000-131000=612000
