Pronoun Antecedent

A pronoun is a word that replaces a noun.
An antecedent is the word for which the pronoun stands.

A Pronoun-antecedent agreement is when the pronoun agrees in number(referring to singular or plural) with its antecedent.

Here are some pronoun-antecedent agreement rules.

Rule 1

The number of the antecedent does not get changed by a phrase or clause between the subject and the verb.

Rule 2

Indefinite Pronoun Antecedents

  • A singular pronoun is used with singular indefinite pronoun antecedent.
