Explain why the celestial bodies appear to move from east to west across the sky when viewed from the Earth.

Answer:

When viewed from the earth, celestial bodies appear to move from east to west in the sky because of the rotation of earth. The earth spins on its axis counter clockwise (west to east) completing 24 hours in one rotation. Due to the daily rotation of the earth, we have to keep changing the direction for observing a particular star. This makes the celestial bodies appear to be moving in the sky east to west with respect to the earth.

Answer:

Comets are dusty snowballs which orbit the Sun. The inside of a comet is the small solid part called the head and a glowing gaseous outer cloud called the coma. The coma spreads out in the form of a long tail when the comet approaches the sun.  Comets can be spotted from the earth when they come close to Sun. But as the comets have very long orbits, they take a very long time to return ranging from a few years to a few thousands of years.  Example: Halley’s Comet approaches Sun once in every 76 years.
