Food for Thought for CBSE Students: Life Without Paper?

In our lives today, things like paper, stationery, books and notebooks are available to us as abundantly as air. We make use of paper for so many things; a lot of activities we might not even remember. As a result, we might have taken the significance of paper a bit too casually. As students, there are several uses of paper that go unnoticed, although its absence would render many of these incomplete. We need to realise the value of paper and its derivatives before we take the presence of paper in our lives for granted. We have listed some of the uses of paper that are of utmost significance to our existence but might not have recognised as importantly as needed. Also, we have listed how we would function in the absence of some of these applications of paper. 1. Sanitation The use of paper for various sanitary applications is probably one of the most underrated application it has. Paper plays a major role in garbage disposal at the individual, domestic and societal level. Without the use of paper in its various forms, disposal of waste would become a major problem. 2. Documentation Despite the fact that documentation has become a majorly online process these days, paper continues to be a major element of all kinds of deals and businesses. The absence of paper and documents signed in black and white, will render a lot of tasks at risk on an international level. 3. Art Paper helps art grow in a way nothing else does. The use of paper for artistic venture is an ancient as it modern, as traditional as it is innovative each day. The world may have discovered the use of different bases for paintings, sketches, etc., in different art forms, but paper continues to be a major element in art. 4. Education Like other applications, education too has made changes in its nature and replaced paper with technological devices. But to the larger masses, where the access to technological advances might not be fully prevalent, paper, in the form of notebooks, books and other such stationery is a crucial element. 5. Packaging Packaging as a process is incomplete without paper. One can easily forget this use of paper in the presence of plastic, metal and wooden substitutes, but the primary packaging of a lot of objects, both fragile and otherwise is ineffective without the use of paper and its many forms.
