Summary of The Invisible Man by HG Wells

The Invisible Man by HG Wells opens when a stranger arrives in the town of Iping. The stranger is a private person, which is a problem when you come to a city where the gossip circle is big. The stranger does not get along with the people at all, and does not mix with the people of the inn where he takes a room. The villagers accuse him of having committed a robbery, which he actually has. He also engages in some scientific activities in his room. He snaps at the people who accuse him of the robbery and takes off all his clothes. This is where he reveals that he is invisible. Summary of The Invisible Man by HG Wells The Invisible Man fights the village and runs away from there, but he leaves his important scientific notes behind. In order to get them back, he makes a homeless man to help him. This homeless man is called Marvel and he along with the Invisible Man go back to Iping but the villagers attack them again. Here too, the Invisible Man creates a lot of havoc by beating the villagers up. The Invisible Man goes to another town, Port Stowe, and steals some money. He keeps the money in Marvel's pockets and the latter runs away to Burdock. The Invisible Man tries to kill Marvel but some people in a bar fight him off. Someone even tries to shoot the IM, but does not succeed in hurting him majorly. The IM starts living in a house that belongs to an old college friend, Kemp. It is revealed here that the name of the IM is Griffin. Griffin tells Kemp about his backstory, about how he was poor but wanted to study invisibility. He stole some money from his father, who then committed suicide. Griffin then discovered invisibility and did a few damages. He burnt down his landlord's building, wandered around in London, stole some things from a departmental store and put on a ridiculous costume from a costume shop. He then takes the route to Iping to go look for work. This is where we find out that Kemp had alerted the police about Griffin's whereabouts just when he had come in. Just as they come in, Griffin escapes and the all the people gang up to catch him. In the end, they manage to capture the Invisible Man and kill him. Just as he is dying, he loses his invisibility and we are able to see his face for the first time. The epilogue tells us that Marvel has all the scientific experiments in the notes that the IM had left behind. Recommended Reading:
