Q.v) The gas evolved on roasting Galena, a Sulphide ore.
(i) Catalytic hydrogenation of ethyne.
(ii) Preparation of ethyne from ethylene dibromide.
(iii) Catalytic oxidation of ammonia to nitric acid.
(iv) Any two conditions for the conversion of sulphur dioxide to sulphur trioxide.
(a) positive
(b) neutral
(c) negative
(d) depends on concentration of p impurity
(a) Bigger ions form the close packed structure.
(b) Smaller ions occupy either the tetrahedral or the octahedral voids depending upon their size.
(c) Occupation of all the voids is not necessary.
(d) The fraction of octahedral or tetrahedral voids occupied depends upon the radii of the ions occupying the voids.

1. Salts A,B, C, D & E undergo reaction (i) to (v) respectively. Identify the anion present in each salt.
i] When AgNO3 solution is added to a soln. of A, a white precipitate, insoluble in dilute nitric acid, is formed.
ii] Addition of dil. HCl to B produces a gas which turns lead acetate paper black.
iii] When a freshly prepared solution of FeSO4 is added to a soln, of C and cone. H2SO4 is gently poured from the side of the test-tube, a brown ring is formed.
iv] When dil, H2SO4 is added to D a gas is produced which turns acidified K2Cr2O7 soln. from orange to green.
v] Addition of dil, HC to E produced an effervescence. The gas produced turns lime water milky but does not effect acidified K2Cr2O7 soln.
2. How will the addition of barium chloride soln help to distinguish between dil. HCl & dil H2SO4.
The substance responsible for the silvery black obtained when hydrogen sulphide gas reacts with lead acetate paper.

(a) SiO2 (b) MgO
(c) SO2(s) (d) CrO2
a)When barium chloride solution is added to a solution of compound b a white precipitate in sellable in dilute hydrochloric acid is formed.
b) The action of heat on the insoluble compound C produces a gas which turns limewater turbid.
c) Compound D when warmed with dilute sulphuric acid gives a gas which turns acidified dichromate solution green.
