What is law and order in Ashoka court

    Dear Student,

In Ashoka's court, the king was considered as the head of the justice who remains as a fountain head of law and order. There are various laws such as dhamma, rajasasana (royal proclamations), dharmashastras, dharmasutras which shall be followed by the people in the Ashoka's kingdom. There were police officers who investigate all sorts of crimes committed by individuals in the Empire. Severe punishments were given to people who committed crimes and there was specific mention of lock-ups and jails where prisoners are kept. This is the law and order and its maintenance in Ashoka's court.

    Regards
