Why is ashoka is known as the great

    Dear Student,

    Please find the answer below.
    • Initially, Ashoka was very fierce and was known to be a warrior who was very ruthless.
    • It was only after he had waged a war against Kalinga in the 260 BCE, did Ashoka actually see the consequence of his victory where many were killed on the battlefield and even more so were wounded.
    • This moved the King so much that he started following Buddhism and was the person who helped spread Buddhism all around South-East Asia.
    • He also was the one who looked after the development of the nation.
    • He brought many reforms in his reign related to education, culture, etc.
    • Hence due to this change and the prosperity that the people saw, he was named Ashoka, the Great.
    Regards,
