Real Number System

• If is an irrational number such that x is a positive rational number and a (a ≠ 1) is a natural number, then is known as a surd. Here, is radical sign, a is order of the surd and x is radicand.

For example,  is a surd of order 3. 

• A surd whose order is 2 is called quadratic surd.
