The Central Board for Secondary Education announced the results of its National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) 2017, on 23rd June. The results were announced not long after the Board received directive from the Supreme Court to not delay the result. The declaration comes as a relief to more than 11 lakh students who had appeared for the exam held on 7th May this year.

Results Announced after Long Delay

The announcement of the NEET 2017 results had been delayed due to students’ complaints in several regions, pertaining to disparities in difficulty levels the paper in English & regional languages. Also, cases of cheating and leaked exam papers surfaced. The decision of the Supreme Court came on 12th June.

Cut-offs Lower Than Expected

A total of 11,38,890 students appeared for NEET 2017 for 65,000 seats in MBBS and 25,000 seats in BDS. The cut-offs for admission into medical colleges across the country are lower than those in 2016, which is hugely unexpected.

For candidates in the unreserved category, the cut-off stands at 131 marks; for those in unreserved – Physically handicapped category is 118, and for all others, the cut-off is 107.

What Comes Next?

The candidates who make it through the cut-off get ready for the counselling sessions, which is done at two levels: one by the Medical Counselling Committee, for 15% of All India seats, while the other, done by state government authorities, done for government, government-aided and private medical institutes.
