JEE Advanced 2015: Eligibility Criteria for JEE Advanced Exam

The offline and online format exams of JEE Main 2015 were held on 4th, 10th and 11th April 2015. JEE Main is one of the two exams students take for admission into some of the most prestigious engineering colleges across the country, like the IIT’s, IIIT’s, NIT’s and ISMs. The second exam, JEE Advanced 2015 is scheduled for 27th May. Aspirants’ performance in JEE Main 2015 decides their eligibility to appear for JEE Advanced 2015. Here is a list of criteria required to be fulfilled by aspirants:

1. Cut-off list: Aspirants need to make it in the cut-off list released by CBSE, which states the minimum number of marks required to appear for the Advanced exam. The cut-off marks for categories of aspirants are decided by the authorities at the beginning of the session. The percentage of students in every category is as follows:

  • Gen: 50.5%
  • OBC-NCL: 27%
  • SC: 15%
  • ST: 7.5%

Within each of these, 3% reservation is available for PwD candidates (including dyslexic candidates)

2. Age Limit: These are the years candidates should have been born after, in order to be eligible for JEE Advanced exam:

For General or OBC-NCL Category: October 1, 1990

SC, ST or PwD category: October 1, 1985

 

3. Number of Attempts: A candidate can appear for JEE Advanced a maximum of two times, that too, consecutive years.

 

4. Appearance in Class 12 or equivalent exams: Candidates should have appeared for class 12 (or equivalent) examination for the first time in all the subjects in either 2014 or 2015. Those who appeared for the first time in their Class XII (or equivalent) examination in 2013 or earlier are NOT eligible. However, candidates whose Class XII (or equivalent) examination Board results for the academic year 2012-13 were declared after June 2013 are eligible to appear for JEE (Advanced) 2015.

The candidate should have appeared for the Class XII (or equivalent) examination Candidates who appeared for the Class XII (or equivalent) examination in 2014 and wish to re-appear for the same in 2015 (either for improvement or because they failed in one or more subjects), will have to re-appear in all the subjects in 2015.

30% percent of candidates’ class 12 board exam marks (and proportionate marks for other boards) are considered for calculation of their eligibility for JEE Advanced.

 

5. Admission at IITs/ISM: Aspirants should not have taken admission in any of the IIT’s or ISM in the past (irrespective of whether or not he/she continued in the program) OR even accepted admission by paying admission fee.

However, candidates who have been admitted to a preparatory course in any of the IITs in 2014 can appear for JEE (Advanced) 2015.
