Major changes suggested in JEE 2016

JEE 2016The Committee of Eminent Persons (CEP) constituted by the IIT Council has made few recommendations and changes in the structure of Joint Entrance Exam (JEE). Although few of these changes will be effective from academic year 2017, some of the suggestions shall be effected from 2016 onwards.

The main changes or suggestions made by the council are as follows:

1. The 40% weightage of class 12 board marks shall not to be counted for giving rankings this year (2016) in JEE (Mains).

2. JEE 2016 will have an enhanced intake from 1.5 lakh to 2 lakh students into the JEE (Advanced) stage.

3. Candidates will be short-listed for taking the JEE from 2017 based on the aptitude test by the National Testing Agency (NTS) which is proposed to be set up in early 2016. The proposed test will be an online test for scientific aptitude and innovative thinking ability. The Aptitude test may be offered 2 or more times in a year.

4. The proposed National Testing Agency will shortlist 4 lakh candidates for taking the JEE and from this, ranks shall be issued to over 40,000 students who can seek admission in IITs and NITs based on a common counselling.

5. The practice of the two-tier JEE test will be continued for at least next two terms, i.e., 2016 and 2017.
