A rectangular courtyard measures 18m 72cm long and 13m 20 cm broad. It is to be paved with square tles of same size. Find the least possible no. of such tiles.

Hi!

Here is the answer to your question.
Length of rectangular courtyard = 18 m 72 cm = 1872 cm
Breadth of rectangular courtyard = 13 m 20 cm = 1320 cm
Since the courtyard is to be paved with square tiles, the side of the square tile must be a divisor of the length and breadth.
Also, as we require the least possible no. of tiles, the side of the square tile should be maximum.
I.e., the side of the square tile is the HCF of the length and breadth.
Now, HCF of 1872 and 1320 = 24
Therefore, the side of the required square tile = 24 cm.
Thus, no. of such square tile required to pave the courtyard
Hence, least possible no. of such tiles = 4290

If area is greatest and perimeter is least then the such tiles.
