3. What was the effect of war on the life of the two boys?

Ans1.) A gentleman is a virtuous, caring loving and noble person who has consideration for others. A gentleman's character is not judged by outward appearance but by his innate character. In the story, Nocola and Jacopo are two young boys who work tirelessly and selflessly for their sister's treatment. Though shabbily dressed, they are dedicated and devoted to their task and show that there is still hope for human society. This the title of the story is apt.

Ans 2.) As the boys are young, they have a childish and very innocent faces. Yet due to the war and the hardships they have had to encounter, they have attained a maturity that is seen only in adults. This is the contrast. 

Ans 3.) War had had a very devastating impact on the boys' life as they lost all their possessions, their home and their father. They had been thrown out on the streets  and fought the cold and starvation. War also left their sister with a terrible disease.
