Compare and contrast the character sketch of marcus brutus and decius brutus ? (4 marks)

Marcus Brutus is 'the' real conspirator behind assassining Julius Caesar. He was a very intelligent man and a very great friend of Caesar. This was the reason he was not at all suspected of any treachery by Caesar. It was completely unexpected of Brutus to have killed Caesar. However, power mattered more than friendship to Brutus. He was very much in love with Rome, its people and its power.

Decius Brutus, on the other hand, also a co-conspirator, did not play as much a great role as that of Marcus'. We see him at the beginning of the play when he forcibly persuades Caesar to visit the Capitol. He brings out the royal heart of Caesar who does not find it important to treat Calipurnia'a superstitious dreams with respect. Decius acts as an object of persuasion when he says that 'Caesar should be a beast without a heart'. All this compels Caesar to go to the Capitol to address the mass.
