exact meaning of species & genus?

Species may be defined as the group of organisms possessing some common characteristic and qualities and are capable to interbreed to produce new fertile offspring.

Genus may be defined as taxonomic category which is ranked below a family and above species. It refers to the groups of different species which are phylogenetically related i.e. structurally similar.
