give short note on myoglobin.

Myoglobin is an iron- and oxygen-binding protein found in the muscle tissue. It is related to pigment called hemoglobin, which is found in the red blood cells. Red muscle fibres have higher concentration of myoglobin than white muscle fibres. High concentrations of myoglobin in such muscle cells allow organisms to hold their breaths longer and these muscle cells are called aerobic muscles.

Myoglobin is ahemoprotein which has the ability to bind molecular oxygen. Itoccurs as a monomeric protein in which the globin is surrounding a heme. It acts as a secondary carrier of oxygen in the muscle tissue. When the muscle cells are in action, they need a large amount of oxygen. Muscle cells use these proteinsto accelerate oxygen diffusion and take oxygen for times of intense respiration. The tertiary structure of myoglobin is similar to a typical water soluble globule protein structure.
