on the no. line, divide the difference between two consecutive nos. into 3 equal parts.

like  ,-1 ,  ,  , 0, , , 1, , , 2  and so on

now -8/3 = -2  2/3

so we take the second part between -2 and -3

like  let the no. here be x

 -3,x, ,-2 , , ,1 and so on

x is -8/3
