organisms in water gain water by osmosis.in sea water, do they absorb the salt too? why or why not?

No they don't necessarily absorb all the salts, they absorb only the ones which they require. It is so as the plasma membrane is selectively permeable.

During osmosis, absolutely not. As osmosis is the spontaneous movement of water through a semi permeable membrane from a region of higher water content to a region of lower water content.
