Phenotype is usually similar to genotype in the homozygous states, but are dismilar in heterozygous state. Explain why.

Dear Student,
Please find below the solution to the asked query:

We cannot say that phenotype and genotype are similar in homozygous state and dissimilar in heterozygous state.

In homozygous condition, the alleles are similar, i.e. either dominant or recessive. In this condition, the phenotype of individual would directly interpret its genotype. In heterozygous condition, alleles of gene are different, i.e. both recessive and dominant alleles are present. In this condition, the phenotype of an individual cannot directly tell the genotype.
