I think that S.Chand and R.D Sharma is a best reference books.

 But never buy S.Chand for class 11 or 12.It is very good only upto class 10th.There is Pradeeps,ABC,ETC.

 For class 10th,S.Chand is the best set for Physics,Chemistry and Biology.

RD Sharma is good for maths,it contains lots of questions,but for understanding the concept,S.Chand Mathematics is good.

I suggest you for all subjects,there is one book from the house of VK Publication,XAMIDEA.it is designed every year,and if you follow them,you'll get many question common.atleast for Socoal science and Science subjects.There is question Bank of OSWAL for all subjects,which is also good.

I'm reffering these from my self experience from 10th.

MTG books are very helpful. So, you can prefer using MTG and Together with for science.

Social Science- Golden is really nice with a lot of questions and value-based questions for all chapters. But, NCERT is the best for social science as the questions for exam come from this book. 

Maths- R.D. Sharma and Golden can be used for competitive exams and helps us to know lot of maths problems. Together with is also a good reference book for maths.

English- Evergreen is very good guide, many practise questions. Evergreen practise papers are really helpful at the time of test.
