The sun rises two hours earlier in Arunachal Pradesh as compared to Gujarat in the west but the watches show the same time. How does this happen?

It happens for the sole reason that the time for India land is measured with the standard meridian of 82.5 degree which passes through Allahabad. This was done to avoid any confusion in timing.

FROM GUJARAT TO ARUNACHAL PRADESH THERE IS A TIME LOG OF TWO HOURS. TIME ALONG THE STANDARD MERIDIAN OF INDIA (82 DEGREE 30 ' E ) PASSING THROUGH MIRZAPUR (IN U.P.) IS TAKEN AS THE STANDARD TIME FOR THE WHOLE COUNTRY. THAT IS WHY THE WATCHES SHOW THE SAME TIME.

The local times of places which lie on different meridians are bound to differ. The sun rises two hours earlier in Arunachal Pradesh as compared to Gujarat in the west. This causes a time lag of two hours from Gujarat to Arunachal Pradesh. To avoid confusion due to time differences and to have a standard time for reference, the time along the meridian (82º 30 ' E) passing through Mirzapur (Uttar Pradesh) has been taken as the standard time for the entire country. This is why the watches show the same time.

It is because of the latitudinal extend influences the duration of day and night as one moves from south to north

India is situated between 68O7’ to 97O25’E Longitude which makes the longitudinal extent of India about 30O. 1O difference in longitude is equivalent to 4 minutes hence, 30O = 120 minutes (1O = 4 minutes, 30O = 30 x 4 = 120 minutes or 2 hrs).

It means that the sun rises about 2 hrs earlier in the easternmost part of India i.e. Arunachal Pradesh than in the westernmost part i.e. Gujarat or Rajasthan. That is why when the sun has already risen in Arunachal Pradesh it is still dark in Gujarat.
