The symptoms of malaria recurr after regular intervals, it is called paroxysm. The malarial parasite stage that is releases from liver cells and erythrocytes is called merozoites. Merozoites grow and develop further in the erythrocyte cytoplasm an in the process, break down its cytoplasm and amino acids etc. It releases a product called haemozoin. When the merozoites are released from the blood cells, the haemozoin is released which causes these chills and fevers. As merozoites mature and rupture erythrocytes in a regular cycle thus the symptoms associated with the haemozoin also occur in a regular cycle.
