In this poem, a few poetic devices have been used.
1. Alliteration: use of the same sounding cosonants in a sentence. For example: I slid, I slide.
2. Onomatoepia: sound verbs. For example: I chatter, I chatter.
3. Parallelism: usage of words and phrases in such a manner that it seems 'parallel' to another situation. OR, Ingrammar, parallelism, also known asparallel structureorparallel construction, is a balance within one or more sentences of similar phrases orclausesthat have the same grammatical structure. The application of parallelism improveswriting styleand readability, and is thought to make sentences easier to process. The whole poem has been made 'parallel' to a human's life starting from infancy to the old days.
4. Refrain: repetition of a group of words or a phrase to put emphasis on a particular point in the reader's mind. The refrain of this story: Men may come and men may go/ But I go on for ever.
5. Personification: giving non living or inanimate things human like qualities. For example: I chatter, I chatter. The Brook can not 'chatter' but the rapid flow of water has been said as a 'chatter' which is a human characterstic.
I think that, that's all the poetic devices. There can be more!
