here,the woman is considered to behave like a terrible fish due to the fact that age has robbed her of her youth and beauty...she is left as a bitter,resentful woman,lost in the depths of age..

here, the word terrible fish is used for the woman. it is because whenthe woman saw her face on the mirror, she saw that she is getting old. and this made her very angry like a terrible fish. the poetic device used in the word 'terrible fish' is metaphor.
