Prime numbers are numbers which do not have factors other than 1.

Consider the prime numbers 2,3,5,7,11,13,17,19,23,...

All of the above are prime numbers and they dont have factors other than 1.

Now consider the numbers 4 and 9.

4 and 9 are not prime numbers  

4 is having factors 1,2 and 4.

9 is having factors 1,3 and 9.

Similarly 14 and 15 are coprime.

8 and 21 are coprime.

But 4 and 9 are coprime numbers because they dont have any common factors other than 1.

Thus coprime numbers are numbers which do not have any other common factor other than 1.
