what is the irony behind caesar's death?

There are many ironic situations in the play, however one has been mentioned in detail:
Right before Caesar's death, Rome experienced a civil war against Pompey which actually lead to the diminishing of the power of the senate. While Caesar wanted to improve the lives of Romans by initiating reforms, the aristocrats and the senator perceived it as his desire to become the ultimate aristocrat. In their intention to prevent this from happening they killed Caesar. The irony however is that even after killing him for the reason of preventing a dictatorship, they again happily submitted to being ruled by one. They murdered that one powerful person who could have taken them to new heights due to a groundless fear and ended up achieving nothing out of it.
