what is the meaning of ohmic and non ohmic materials?

Substances that follow the Ohm’ Law are called ohmic substances. Generally metals are ohmic substances at constant or small change in temperature. Wires made of copper, iron, silver etc are ohmic conductors.

Substances that don’t follow Ohm’ Law are called non ohmic substances. Semiconductors and insulators are non ohmic substances. Devices like diode, transistor are made of semiconductors like silicon, germanium and they don’t follow the Ohm’ Law.

There are normally two types of conductors. The two types of conductors are ohmic and non ohmic. Ohmic Conductors such as a pure metal such as copper or tungsten obey Ohm’s Law given that the temperature and pressure at kept low and constant. The others that do not obey Ohm’s Law are called Non Ohmic Conductors.

Hope it helps! :)

Those conductors which follows ohm's law are said to be ohmic. and the non ohmic are opposit to it.

the materials which follow ohm'law are known as ohmic material

and the vice versa ones are known as non ohmic material
