Plants are called autrotrophs because plants can feed themselves unlike animals and other types of organisms. However, there are some plants that cannot feed themselves. An example is the Venus Flytrap.

An autotrophs is an organism that can produce its own food using light, water, carbon dioxide, or other chemicals. Because autotrophs produce their own food, they are sometimes called producers.
