The means of transportation and communication are called the lifelines of a nation and its economy because they are the preconditions for progress and development. Goods and services cannot move on their own from supply houses to demand locales. This necessitates the need for transportation. Thus, a country's economy depends not only on the production and sale of goods and services, but on their transport as well. Globalisation has been possible on account of easier and fast-developing communication channels between the countries of the world. Hence, it complements trade as well as transport. India is well-connected with the rest of the world due to these two things-transport and communication, which have contributed vastly to the development of our national economy. They have also added extensively to growing amenities and facilities improving our lifestyles.

1)Goods are produced in factories and sold in shops, warehouses and retail outlets. In order to move the goods from one place to another, transportation is required.

2)Developments in transportation technology have made possible the transportation of goods over very long distances fast and cheap. This has stimulated foreign trade, whose development is considered to be a measure of prosperity and economic development of a nation

3)Developments in communication technology have made communication easy and cheap. India has well-developed communication channels with all parts of the world, which has also stimulated foreign trade.

4)Countries which convert their raw materials into items/goods of higher value become prosperous. Since transport and communication supplement industrial production, they can make a country truly prosperous

5)Transport and communication are indispensable in today's world. Undoubtedly, they are the lifelines of a nation and its economy.

how has tranportation and communication developed from ages?

earlier the means of transportation were not industrial and also communication tech had not been fully developed. there was only post earlier.
however with industrialisation and urbanistation, people have come up with new methods of transportation, like earlier bullock carts were used but now trucks and tempos are being used, which are much faster.
similarly in communication tech several new innovations have made it easier to communicate with ease and also it is cheap. some of the devpts in the communication tech include fax, telegraph, mail, IM, and many more.

hope it helps. all the best

1) Transportation allows the working class to move through parts of the city quickly and efficiently. Transportation also allows the moving of goods quickly and efficiently, which is essential for a country's growth economically [on a world scale].

2) Communication is essential in a country's growth. Communication goes from language to high technology [usage of computers]. By enabling communication, a country is able to enhance itself politically, economically and socially.

Transport and communication are considered lifelines of Indian economy because:-
1) Dense and efficient network of transport and communication are a pre requisite for economic growth of a country
2) Just the production of goods is not sufficient we need an efficient transport network to move the goods from supply locations to demand location
3) For example with an efficient network of transportation we can reduce the time taken to move the goods over long distances
4) it have made the physical distances meaningless as now a person living in any part of the country can communicate to any person in any part of globe by e mail ,internet ,etc
5) it had made possible transactions over long distances within no time example The printing press in Delhi which prints newspaper for London gets payment by e- banking or internet banking

(i) The development of a country depends upon the production of goods and services as well as their movement to their destination. Transport plays an important role in the economy. Because of transport, raw materials reach to the factory or industry and finished products reach to the consumers. Transport has helped in both production and distribution of goods. Hence, efficient means of transport are prerequisites for fast development.  (ii) For a long time, trade and transport were restricted to a limited space. With the development in science and technology, the area of influence of trade and transport expanded far and wide. Today, the world has been converted to a large village with the help of efficient and fast moving transport. Transport has been able to achieve this with the help of equally developed communications system. Therefore, transport, communications and trade are complementary to each other. (iii) India is well-linked with the rest of the world despite its vast size, diversity, linguistic and socio-cultural plurality. Railways, airways, waterways, newspapers, radio, television, cinema and internet, etc. have been contributing to its socio-economic progress in many ways. The trades from local to international levels have added to the vitality of its economy. It has also enriched our life and added substantially to growing amenities and facilities for the comforts of life. Hence, it is right to say that means of transportation and communication are the lifelines of a nation and its economy.
