The two boys were at a desolate spot as they wanted to sell their unsold paper to the passengers of the last bus. This shows that the boys worked tirelessly from morning to night and were not shy of hard work. They were also extremely enterprising and came up with new ideas to maximise their earnings. This shows their honesty and dedication towards their work and their determination to ensure the treatment of  their sister.

the boys were in the deserted square at the night bcoz they wished to sell unsold piles of newspapers to the passengers from the last bus from padua. nd they also want 2 earn enough money for the treatment of their sister,lucia,who was suffering from tuberculosis of spine........

The two boys were selling newspapers in the windy,deserted night.They worked very hard and earned money; made regular payments to the hospital to help their sister who was suffering from TB.They were waiting for the last bus from Padua.This shows their sense of hardwork and patience to fulfill their aims.They were willing to work till midnight.
