How to be an All Rounder in School?

Meritnation|Apr 11th, 2014 01:57pm

Achievements earned in school get you credit, and benefit you when applying for higher education or considering career options. The more you are involved in co-curriculars and extra curriculars, more are the chances that you will use skills learnt in them later in life. But in order to be an all rounder, you need to make sure you have taken good care of your studies as well.

Students often end up paying more attention to either academics or other activities that happen at school. But smart students make it a point to manage their time, energy and effort cleverly. They not only manage to get noticed for their talent in different school activities, but get good marks as well!

So how are your supposed to be an all rounder? How do you make sure you can balance both studies and activities of your interest, like sports or any of the cultural forms. As the new session starts, we recommend a list of steps you could follow in order to be better organized in school and strengthen your chances of becoming an all rounder.

1. Choose an activity that interests you.
You may be good at several activities including music, art, dance, martial arts, sports, etc. But you need to choose the activity you want to follow seriously. In case you are already training or involved in a particular activity or sport, nurture your abilities with gusto. Make a point not to get your hands into several activities all at once cause this could mean trouble in more than one way. Being the jack of all trades would tire you unnecessarily and would not give you time enough to concentrate on that one activity that you like.

2. Pay attention in studies and work hard
Yeah, there aren’t many shortcuts you can take, in this matter. Academics seldom have any short cuts, if you wish to excel in them. The best way to get high marks while managing other activities would be to concentrate on studying, when you are actually at it. Few things to keep in mind, regarding management of studies are:

a. Never bunk classes. Know that while you are having fun outside the class, you could learn what is being taught inside and score more. In case there really are important things you need to do while a class is on, you should get to know what all was taught in class, from your classmates.

b. Be regular to school. Missing out on school days without a reason should be avoided. Loss of attendance, missing out on class and studies might just affect your grades.

c. Come up with new and interesting ways to study. With so many things going on at school, it may become difficult for you to sit and study the traditional manner, reading and memorising each line. Instead, you could chalk out methods that draw your interest. Online study portals offer several activities and fun methods to help you learn.

d. Chalk out a schedule. Every successful person will tell you how important time is and how essential is the management of time, into a well-planned schedule. And guess what, doing this will actually give you free time! Once you have managed your studies and other activities planned according to time, you might actually be left with time to relax!

e. Do not miss out on assignments and projects. A sure shot way to make sure that marks are coming your way, give in the effort required into projects and assignments given in class, or for vacations. These will earn you the brownie points. Also, if there are any class tests scheduled, study for them.

3. Create a balance
What is most crucial for all rounders is maintaining that perfect balance, between the amounts of attention paid to academics, co-curricular activities and resting time. Too much or too little of any of these is bound to take a toll on you. Divide the 24 hours, the seven days and the four weeks intelligently. Ask your seniors, teachers, mentors or friends for advice.

4. Know the priorities
There are times when you would have to compromise on one activity because the other requires your sole attention. For example, at the time of exams, you may have to lessen down on the activities that you pursue. Or you may have to pay more attention to your your field of interest when the time comes. Just be alert and wise about the priorities.

We hope these steps help you get on the course of success . If you want to build your personality and life skills
