as you can see these are two different pages from a book. see the description of alloy and the second question at the right side. in both you will find that they are talking about brass. but at one place its written brass is an alloy of cu & sn and in the other its the alloy of Cu & Zn , what is happening?

This question is very simple but please answer it. Whenever i want to find valencies with configurations ;like Al is 13(2,8,3) i see that in case of metals its usually +1,+2, +3 & in nonmetals it is -1,-2 ... Now i want to know what is the point(margin) from where we will know that the element will loose or gain electrons? I mean like if any element has the configuration of 2,4 will it loose four or gain four? Something like that.

In many definitions of ionic bonds etc... i have seen it is written that both metal and non metals loose and gain electrons to attain the nearest *noble gas configuration. Why noble gas, why not solid or liquid? Is it because they have completely filled shells?

I have queries related to th following points. Please explain the second, third and sixth points.
Main Features of Reactivity Series:
Metals are arranged in the decreasing order of their electropositive character.
Metals at the top have greater reducing power. This power decreases on
moving down the series.
Metals at the top show greater tendency to get oxidised.
Metals above hydrogen in the reactivity series liberate hydrogen gas from
mineral acids.
Metals at the top displace metals lower in the series from the aqueous solution
of their salts.
Metal oxides above Al, cannot be reduced by common reducing agents, the
reverse is true for metal oxides below Al.
