1. how much solar energy will be recieved by 1m2 area in one hour if the solar constant be 1.4 KW/m2?
2. if the by 5m2area in 10 minutes is 4200 Kj calculate the value of solar constant?
1-
From the solar constant we deduce that
1.4 kW of power is incident upon every 1m2 of area.
i.e the total energy incident in 1 hr over an area of 1 m2 will be = 1.4 kW x 1 hr
(Since P=E/t or E=P x t)
Hence,energy = 1.4 kWh
2-
E = 4200 kJ
t = 10 min = 600 sec
P = E/t = 7 kJ/sec
Area = 5 m²
P/A = 7/5 = 1.4 kJ/sec m²
This is the value of the solar constant.
This means that 1.4 kJ of solar energy reaches the surface of the earth in 1 second over an area of 1m².
