1. Name plastid involved in conversion of Green Tomato to Red ? 2. What will happen if Chloroplast is taken out of the cell and illuminated ?

  • It is Chromoplasts.

Chloroplasts mature into pigment producing chromoplasts in the tomato fruit. Chromoplasts of deep red coloured fruits contain lycopene crystals within the lumina (inner space) of membrane sacs which are derived from the inner envelope membrane as the chloroplast matured during the ripening process.

  • Chloroplasts are the organelles which gives color to the plant and helps the leaves to capture the sunlight to perform the process of photosynthesis. Therefore if chloroplasts are taken out of the leaves then the plant will not be able to do its photosynthesis. As a result, the plant will die.
