a)Arrange the members of a period in the order of
I)decreasing atomic radius.
II) decreasing metallic character.
b)Select two element from the group that are
I) less reactive than potassium.
II)more than reactive than potassium.

Justify the answers also please.

Dear student,

a) I) On moving left to right in a period the atomic radius decreases and on moving top to bottom in a group the atomic radius increases.

Francium > Cesium > Rubidium > Potassium > Sodium > Magnesium > Aluminium > Silicon > Phosphorus > Argon > Chlorine > Lithium.

Argon is having more size than chlorine because of Vander wall radius.

II) Metallic character decreases on moving from left to right in a period and increase on moving from top to bottom in a group.

The decreasing order of metallic character is-

Francium > Cesium > Rubidium > Potassium > Sodium > Magnesium > Aluminium > Silicon > Phosphorus > chlorine > argon > Lithium.

b) (I) In a group the reactivity of metals increases from top to bottom.

Sodium and Lithium are less reactive than Potassium.

(II) Francium and Cesium are more reactive than Potassium.
