A body is just floating in a liquid if the body is slightly pressed down and released. Why doesn'tit oscillate?

Dear student,

Kindly find the answer of your asked query.

A body on the surface of the water floats when buoyant force acting on the body due and its weight are completely balanced each other.
Hence it is in equilibrium position. When we displace it from its equilibrium position it will oscillate and perform simple harmonic motion.

Hope this information will clear your doubt about mechanical properties of liquid.
