We know that, when speed is constant, then distance and time are directly proportional.It is given that car covers 180 km in 4 hoursaLet the time taken by the car to cover 400 km = x hrsIn tabular form:-

For direct proportion,

   1804 = 400x⇒ x = 4 × 400180⇒ x = 809 So the total time taken to cover 400 km is 809 hrs.

(b)

Let y be the distance travelled in 7 hrs.In tabular form:-
 
Distance (km) 180 y
time (hrs) 4 7

For direct proportion,

       1804 = y7y = 7 × 1804 = 315 So, the distance covered in 7 hrs is 315 km.
