a cube is coloured red on all faces .it is cut into 64 smaller cubes., of equal size .

1. how many cubes have no faces coloured ??
2. how many cubes r there which have only 1 face colored ?
3. how many cubes have 3 faces colored ??

let the length of the side of cube be 4 cm.
the number of smaller cubes = 4*4*4 = 64 cubes

the number of cubes which has three faces painted = the number of vertices = 8 cubes
the number of cubes which has two faces coloured = 2*number of edges = 2*12 = 24 cubes
the number of cubes which has only one face coloured = 4*number of faces = 4*6= 24 cubes
the number of cubes which has no face coloured = 64 - (8+24+24)
= 64 - 56
= 8
