A negatively-charged object is BROUGHT closer to a neutral object. What type of charge does the neutral object acquire? Why?

Dear Student,

Here we use the concept of charging by induction. In this method ,a charged body will be brought near an uncharged object mounted on an insulating stand. The nearer end of the body will acquire an opposite charge and farther end the same charge.

Here, the negatively charged body is brought near the object AB. Some of the free electrons in the end A will move towards end B due to repulsion from the negatively charged rod. Thus end B became negatively charged due to the excess free electrons. The absence of free electrons at end A will make it positive.

Thus here, the nearer end of the object will become positively charged and farther end will became negatively charged.

Regards.
